RECAP: Salisbury Salt Marsh Pack Out Sponsored by onX

September is Public Lands Month and it was a perfect time to come out to Salisbury Beach State Reservation and help clean up the beach. Salisbury Beach is a unique area where the Merrimack River flows into the Atlantic Ocean creating a wonderful salt marsh habitat for all kinds of plants and animals. This is a great spot to take advantage of public access as it allows for fishing access, a boat ramp, beach access, and plenty of waterfowl habitat. We enjoyed a great time stewarding the land ...

RECAP: Vermont Northwoods Story Slam at Johnson Woolen Mills

Nothing defines hunting the big woods like wool pants and coats in the classic buffalo check pattern.  Johnson Woolen Mills has been at it in Vermont for nearly two centuries.  They hosted us for the Vermont Northwoods Story Slam at their store Saturday, August 31st and it was a great time! They graciously donated over $1000 worth of goods for raffle and give-aways.  The main prizes were a "Hunting package" with pants, shirt, crusher hat, orange vest, gloves, socks, light weight jacket and ...

Waterfowl Banding with Rhode Island BHA – Summer 2024

Each year fish & wildlife agencies around the country assemble teams of biologists, technicians, and volunteers to take on the important conservation work of banding waterfowl. Unlike winter waterfowl banding, where efforts focus primarily on migratory ducks on their winter range, summer banding is focused on Canada geese in the areas where they raise young and go through the annual cycle of molting. In 2024, New England BHA’s RI team assisted wildlife biologists from the RI Department of ...

Some time between late 2022 and early 2023 the Quidnessett Country Club (QCC), located near the northern end of North Kingstown RI, built a sea wall near one of the holes of their golf course. Had they applied for a permit to construct a 600 foot long, 20 foot tall rock revetment from RI’s Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC), which is tasked to “preserve, protect, develop, and where possible, restore the coastal resources of the state”, there is little doubt that they would have been ...
