An Archer's Inner Life by Dave Sigurslid

This title is part of BHA's Jim Posewitz Digital Library: Required Reading for Conservationists In great part the appeal of public lands is that they provide a space for us to commune with the primeval. Though your HOA may frown on you shooting a Zwickey at the forkhorn browsing your hostas, the manager of your closest wildlife area likely has no such qualms. An Archer’s Inner Life is a profound exploration of the yearning to return in some small way to life closer to the bone. Sigurslid’s ...

Pre-Season Turkey Scouting Tips

Author: Joey Bell
Well, it is that time of year for some of us.  It is almost like clockwork.  Once New Year’s hits, a switch flips in us die hard turkey hunters.  I really notice it on social media.  What once was a timeline filled with deer hunting or western hunting pursuits, has been replaced by endless questions about shotguns, chokes, shells, decoys, calls, vests, and “not looking for honey holes, but…” posts.  Yes, it’s getting close to turkey season.  The most wonderful time of year for those of us ...

Cochetopa Cottontails

By Gabriela Zaldumbide   One of the reasons why I became a hunter was so I could source my own food. In the last two and a half years, I’ve had the pleasure of hosting many wild game dinners, adoring the opportunities to share my elk, venison or small game with friends. Unsurprisingly, after attending some of these “family dinners,” my friend Anna became interested in harvesting an animal herself. She had harvested a whitetail doe with her dad before in Alabama, but that was long ago. She ...

Montana sportsmen rally around rejected FWP commissioner

Author: Montana BHA
One more vote on Thursday signaled that Republican legislators intend to give certain landowners and outfitters priority over resident sportsmen and women when it comes to Fish, Wildlife & Parks decisions. Committee rejects McKean as Fish and Wildlife Commission nominee; bills would expand board

Author: Montana BHA
Saying Gov. Greg Gianforte wants to “have some change in philosophy” at the Fish and Wildlife Commission, the Senate Fish and Game Committee on Thursday voted not to advance Glasgow Commissioner Andrew McKean’s nomination. The 7-4 vote broke along party lines with all Republican members of the committee opposing McKean’s appointment. Montana code, defining the qualifications for the commission, clearly states: "Appointments must be made without regard to political affiliation and must be ...

Mahoney   While acquiring food is essential to the lives of all species, humans express a unique emotional connection to what we consume.
