SC RECAP: SC BHA Manufactured Wire Reef Construction with SCDNR SCORE program

Did you know that one adult oyster filters 2.5 gallons of water per hour? Last Friday 3/21/2025, SC BHA met and helped SCDNR build Manufactured Wire Reefs (MWR) for the SCORE program. The SC BHA team were able to make 15 MWRs. With each MWR recruiting about 7000 oysters or so with 105,000 oysters recruited, each oyster filtering x 2.5 gallons of water per hour = 262,5000 gallons of water per hour.  Multiply that by 24 hours in a day = 6,300,000 gallons of water per day!!!! CT BHA Comments on Sunday Hunting and Bear Hunting

BHA submitted online testimony in reference to two bills up for public hearing in the Connecticut General Assembly Environment Committee today (3/24/25).   Connecticut is one of the few states that still have a "blue law" of not allowing hunting on Sunday.  H.B. No. 7231, An Act Concerning Sunday Hunting, aims to repeal existing prohibitions against Sunday hunting, thereby expanding opportunities for hunters within the state. Taking all the various hunting seasons into account, upwards of 25 ...

West Virginia BHA Organizes and Collaborates on the state's First Sportsman's Day at the Capital

Politics has a negative connotation that makes most folks recoil at the thought of spending their free time engaged in it.  Yet as hunters and anglers who care about conservation it is our duty to improve our effectiveness at standing up for public lands and wildlife. Our chapter was formed in the middle of a fight to protect public hunting lands in WV and at that time our only tactic on a state level was to yell about the issue.  While we took a couple small wins from that battle, we ...

Efforts to Streamline the Sale of Public Lands for Housing Continue to Grow

Across the country, we’re seeing increased pressure to develop land for housing as communities grow and demand for real estate rises. While addressing the shortage of affordable housing is important and necessary, some policymakers have proposed a dangerous and irreversible solution: selling off large swaths of public lands. As hunters and anglers, we know this is a short-sighted idea with long-term consequences.  A new Joint Task Force on Federal Land for Housing announced by Housing and ...
