Bill bans sale of public land trail camera images for hunting

Author: Montana BHA
The sale of wildlife trail camera images and location trail data for hunting on public lands would be prohibited under a bill that was heard and quickly advanced from committee Thursday. House Bill 547 brought by Rep. Jill Cohenour, D-East Helena, seeks to curtail the technological creep into hunting by drawing an ethical red line over the sale of images, video and data on public lands. Supporters of the bill cited services that have been offered in other states where a person essentially ...

OH Trainwreck: Literal and Figurative

AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar Ohio is no stranger to environmental contamination. We have a nose for industry here, and have lived in close quarters with complex molotov-esque chemical cocktail infrastructure and factories. Sure, our mighty Cuyahoga river did catch on fire - multiple times, but Ohio is known for its grit. We have a high tolerance for contamination. However, the catastrophic train wreck in East Palestine Ohio is too ...

Cowboy Venison Casserole

Author: Chris Smith
This is one of my favorite midweek recipes for ground venison because I can whip it up quickly and it makes enough for leftovers that just get better with time.  Lean venison is preferred, but if you do have fat mixed into your ground, just drain the excess once you have browned the meat.  This works with ground deer, antelope, elk or whatever lean ground meat you have available. Ingredients 1 lb lean ground venison (I have used 1.5 lbs in this recipe as well) 1 can of Ranch Style Beans 1 ...

The best resources for Texans wanting to get into western hunting: podcast edition There are a lot of resources out there if you are interested in heading west to chase big game. As members of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, we are passionate about preserving the natural habitats of game and nongame species alike. It's time to take action to mitigate the impact of recreation trails on wildlife populations in southwest Colorado. COMMENTS DUE BY THURSDAY FEBRUARY 23. This is not the time to be complacent. OPINION: Public property rights deserve protection

The Hughes Creek Road in Ravalli County was illegally gated for decades. Landowners blocked the road with gates, threatening signs, and even machinery, essentially giving themselves exclusive access to hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands. The issue has gone to the courts, including the Montana District and Supreme Courts, and the rulings have always been the same: the road must be opened to the public. It’s a public road. Despite the rulings, the illegal gate remained, and ...

Lawmakers hear bill to increase fines for illegally blocking roads

Author: Montana BHA
An effort long championed by access groups to increase fines for illegally blocking public roads made its return to the Legislature on Friday with a bill that could raise fines to up to $500 per day. Rep. Paul Green, R-Hardin, brought House Bill 486 to the House Transportation Committee. The bill would amend Montana law on encroachments, such as a gate, fence or other obstruction, on public rights of way. The law would allow an individual to file a petition with the county to have the ...
