Join the New Mexico Chapter and the AFI Kirtland Chapter for the 2nd Annual Lincoln National Forest Stream Restoration and Turkey Hunt on the weekend of April 19-21.
We will meet up at The Meadows Campground on Friday evening and have a wild game potluck and get to know each other.
Saturday and Sunday mornings will begin with a turkey hunt, with volunteers making their own way out to their hunting areas. After we all fill a tag or two, we will meet back at the campground with FS employees to go over a safety briefing and the scope of work for that afternoon. We will be constructing dams to simulate beaver activity and to develop the stream beds to hold more water year-round and create more suitable habitat for fish to thrive in.
Be prepared for moderate hiking, and fairly intense labor. The work will take place in the stream beds, so waders or preparation for being wet is a must. This event is kid friendly.
