Located 30 minutes north of Emporia and 1 hour southwest of Topeka, volunteers will have the opportunity to protect the unique Flint Hills prairie ecosystem by removing cedar and other undesirable trees along the Flint Hills Nature trail. The Flint Hills Nature Trail is 118 mile long trail managed by KDWP. The specific site divides 2 large WIHA tracts of upland habitat.
This project is open to all - members and non-members, and kids may also attend.
Volunteers will need to be able to cut down and remove cedars. Volunteers are encouraged to bring chainsaws and other tree removal equipment, but will be required to provide their own personal protection equipment (including ear/eye protection, gloves, and chaps)
Volunteers will need to sign either the electronic liability waiver in advance or a paper waiver the day of the event. All volunteers should bring leather work gloves and eye protection.
We will finish up the workday with a cookout provided by BHA, and all volunteers will receive a volunteer package from Kansas BHA state sponsor Waltons Meat.
Meeting Spot: We will meet at the coordinates 38.643500, -96.298400. This is at the intersection of RD D and Flint Hills trail.
A nearby address that will take you to that intersection via Google Maps is 3300 Rd D, Council Grove, KS 66846
