Kansas AFI Upland 101

Veterans Day 2023 Kansas Backcountry Hunters and Anglers Armed Forces Initiative hosted 15 Participants at an Upland 101 event near Jetmore KS.

Participants received instruction on:

Public Land Access in Kansas

Upland habitat identification

Upland hunting tactics - drives - dog work - wind direction

Pheasant and quail species ecology and management within the State of Kansas

"This was an amazing event that is super repeatable" - Matt Nicole KS AFI Liaison.

The combination of conservation education and a wild experience on our state's public lands is a truly unique way to help put folks on the track to becoming a conservationist. While no participant is going home an expert in upland conservation theory or habitat, this is a key first step to building these young men and women into conservation advocates.  I would love to host this event again in 2024 and see some of these folks come back as mentors, and I would be tickled pink to see any of them at one of the local Kansas DNR meetings talking about how public access and upland hunting opportunities are valued by them as veterans.  This is just step one but we are well on our way t creating 15 new public land conservation advocates in Kansas.

This and many more of BHA AFI Q4 events are sponsored by BOSS shot shells https://bossshotshells.com/

Kansas AFI Hunt mentor - The support from Boss on this event was incredible. We couldn't put on events like this without their support.  They are an incredible partner and I cant thank them enough.
