Join your California Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers the weekend of November 1st - 3rd in the Southern Sierra for a full schedule of seminars, in-field demonstrations and social events aimed at empowering new hunters and anglers with the skills necessary to begin, or deepen, their delve into the outdoors with plenty of content for the more skilled in the group.
On Friday, get settled into camp and meet us at Kern River Brewing Company for introductions and a Pint Night, then gather back around the fire before calling it a night. On Saturday, spend the morning attending seminars focused on firearm education, backcountry basics, first aid and safety and species-specific introductions to hunting and fishing. In the afternoon we’ll be offering courses in field dressing, prepping and cooking the wild game and fish.
Saturday evening, the Kern River Conservancy will be hosting its annual Wild and Scenic Film Festival right at Rivernook Campground. Attendees are encouraged to attend and tickets are available ahead of time or may be purchased at the venue.
Sunday morning, we’ll hit the field. We’ll have groups based on quarry and method of pursuit with mentors leading the charge. If you’re a licensed hunter or angler with the proper validations and licenses, you will have the opportunity to harvest quail, rabbit, trout, and panfish.
Space is limited so register early! Members, non-members and everyone in the family are welcome, but anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For those traveling in from out of town, there’s plenty of camping and lodging options available in and just outside Kernville, but Rivernook Campground is a great place to start.
Calling all mentors/skilled hunters and anglers: Don’t worry, you aren’t going to be left out. If you are willing to dedicate some of your time to take a person or two out into the field on Sunday, registration will be free. Contact Justin Bubenik ([email protected]) for more information.
