It's that time of year! Not just the holidays, but when many Front Range anglers switch to hard water, which can be a ton of fun, both in the usual ice-fishing spots, but particularly so in the Colorado backcountry.
For this Hike to Hunt and Fish, we'll take it easy with a hike under a mile to an alpine lake to catch tiger and brook trout through the ice. Bait, tackle and ice auger are provided, but you will need to have your own rods, and be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and numerous layers of warm clothing. After a morning of ice fishing, we'll hike down the mountain to grab a bite and brew at a local watering hole.
Location will be revealed by email to those who are going, but we'll meet at the Dinosaur Lots in Morrison to carpool before light on Saturday, Dec. 15. Snowshoes are not need, but the planned location can get quite windy in the afternoon, so fishing will be done before noon and we should be back to the carpool before 3 pm. This trip is subject to weather and ice conditions, and participants will be notified if needs to be cancelled.
