Idaho Chapter Board

Kirk Adams, Co-Chair (Southwest Idaho)

Kirk Adams grew up clamming and fishing in western Washington before returning to Idaho in 1989 to start a family. A lifelong outdoorsman, he spends his time elk hunting, rafting rivers, hiking, and bird hunting behind his Pudelpointers. Today, Kirk and his wife Sara share Idaho's Public Lands with their four grandchildren, passing on a love for wild places and outdoor traditions.

Don Carpenter, Co-Chair (East Idaho)

Don grew up in central New York State, and migrated to the Teton area in the early nineties. He now lives with his wife and son on the west slope of the Tetons. Don has always had a passion for backcountry travel as a means for exploration of wild places. This exploration has taken him to remote corners of the world, but he especially enjoys spending time outdoors near home in Teton Valley.  Through elk hunting, Don found an even stronger connection to wild places in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. He is grateful for the many opportunities to spend time outdoors, locally and afar, with his wife and son.

Melissa Hendrickson, Co-Chair (North Idaho)

Melissa Hendrickson

Melissa grew up in Northern Maine ice fishing, tagging along with her father grouse hunting, biking, and generally spending a lot of time outdoors. She didn’t start hunting herself until after moving to Idaho for work in 2014.  Melissa is a former public lands hydrologist who specialized in large scale watershed restoration for cutthroat trout. She is currently the outdoor coordinator and personal wild game chef for her son.  They, along with her husband Jamie and bird dog Rosie, live in Sandpoint and can be found dabbling in pretty much every kind of hunting and fishing.  When she isn’t taking her toddler on hunting or fishing adventures, she enjoys skiing, writing, making videos about past exploits, and planning future outings.

Steve Gale, Board Member (Treasurer)

Image preview

Steve grew up on a dairy farm south of Meridian and has lived in Idaho all his life enjoying fishing and hunting with family and friends, and now relishes the time spent with his grandkids in the great outdoors. His son John (BHA Conservation director) introduced him and his wife Debbie to BHA about 8 years ago and they have been involved since that time. BHA appealed to Steve because of its support of multiple use of our public lands and the desire to increase access and promote conservation. Retired after 42 years working in management at Lactalis Cheese factory in Nampa Idaho, he now finds more enjoyment spending time in the outdoor environments while hunting and fishing than the actual harvest.

Nick London, Secretary

Nick grew up on the outskirts of Boise chasing deer, elk, and his family's Brittany Spaniels. Having spent the majority of his life living and working on public lands, BHA’s mission is a fundamental component of his life. When he isn’t working or volunteering, you can find Nick running the trails, walking the greenbelt, or trying to cajole anyone who will listen into playing a game of wingspan.

Troy Frommer, Board Member (Membership, Events & Fundraising Committee Chair)

Troy is an Ohio native who grew up in the northwest region of the state. After taking a trip through Montana and Idaho he decided to relocate to Idaho in 2021. Hunting and fishing have always been important activities in his life. Some of his favorite species to chase are wild turkeys, elk and mule deer. Coming from an area where there is little public access for hunting, BHA’s mission is especially important to him and is the primary reason he volunteers. You can find Troy out on the hiking trails around Boise or hunting, fishing and camping on our treasured public lands.

Mark Wilson, Board Member (Policy Committee Chair)

Originally from Eastern Idaho, Mark has spent time enjoying public land in almost every corner of the state. He is an avid hunter, particularly favoring archery, and angler. Recognizing the gift that was growing up with the hunting, fishing, and recreation opportunities he did, Mark was drawn to advocate for those same things to ensure that they were there for future generations to enjoy. Mark lives in Boise with his wife Iseyda and bird dog, Ruby.

Opie Jahn, Board Member (Stewardship Committee Chair)-

Opie grew up in Michigan and found his way to Idaho (by way of Montana) in 2005. He found a home in Valley County although he currently resides in Boise. An avid outdoor enthusiast from hunting and fishing, backcountry skiing and backpacking, to flying his Super Cub the vast majority of his recreation is on public lands. He believes preserving access to the outdoors and public lands for future generations is of the utmost importance.

Jake Thomas, Board Member (Communications Committee Chair) -

Jake grew up in Idaho. His dad, a biologist for IDFG, took him on hunting and fishing adventures as soon as he could walk. Jake learned to love nature, embrace ethical hunting practices, and appreciate the conservation efforts needed to preserve public lands. Jake carries on this legacy with his wife Kristy as they explore the backcountry with their six kids. As a family, they enjoy running trails, fishing high mountain lakes, rock hounding, and eating the game and fish they harvest. Having served as a US Marine (Reserves), Jake dedicates time to mentor young hunters in marksmanship skills and promotes standards that reduce big game wounding loss. He works with other sportsmen/women to share time and talents to help his children and future generations continue to benefit from the blessings of wildlife and outdoor resources.

Hunter Whitten, Armed Forces Initiative Liason -

Hunter Whitten has been working with the Armed Forces Initiative as a Liaison for the past 2 years and has been a Lifetime BHA member since 2022. He has hunted, and been around hunters his entire life, and grew up chasing Roosevelt elk in SW Washington. He spent 5 years active duty in the U.S Army where he earned the rank of Sergeant and has lived in Mountain Home, Idaho since 2022. He enjoys any and every kind of hunting and especially enjoys preparing wild game for others. Events ran by Hunter almost always have a wild game dish ready for volunteers.
