Please join members of the Wisconsin Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, for a hands-on stewardship workday at the Sugar River Wetlands State Natural Area on Saturday, September 27, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.This event will be led by Jared Urban, State Natural Area Volunteer Program Coordinator, along with WI BHA Stewardship Lead and board member Zack Hanson.
We are inviting volunteers to assist with the manual collection of desirable native wetland plant seeds, supporting biodiversity regeneration efforts led by the Wisconsin DNR. Manual seed collection is a crucial conservation tool that ensures seeds from locally adapted, resilient plants are preserved and re-established, helping to maintain genetic diversity and restore healthy, functioning ecosystems.
You’ll also have the opportunity to learn from field experts about the vital role wetland communities play in our broader ecosystem, including their importance in water quality, wildlife habitat, and flood resilience.
The event is family-friendly and open to the public. Attendees should come prepared for wet, uneven terrain, which will likely be muddy and challenging underfoot.
