Learn to Hunt Waterfowl at the Teller Wildlife Refuge

Event Start Date: 10/17/2025

Event End Date: 10/19/2025

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, in partnership Teller Wildlife Refuge, is offering a free, all-inclusive program that will introduce you to all things waterfowl including the history of waterfowl conservation, public water access in Montana, how to care for and butcher your birds and leave you feeling confident to hunt safely, legally, and ethically.

Workshop will take place at the Teller Wildlife Refuge near Corvallis, Montana. Accommodations will be provided and you will spend the weekend on-site with your fellow classmates and workshop leaders. You'll participate in educational sessions and a mentored hunt with fellow new hunters, waterfowl experts, and mentors. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to try different wild game meals that will be provided throughout the weekend.

Chosen participants will need to purchase a Conservation License, Base Hunting License, Migratory Bird License, and Federal Migratory Bird Stamp. The federal stamp is available from the USPS as well as all FWP offices.

All migratory bird hunters in Montana, as well as in all other states, are required to take part in a National Harvest Survey Program. To comply with HIP, you must complete a survey including your name, address and date of birth before you can purchase your Montana Migratory Bird License. Total cost is $49.50 for residents and $100 for non-residents.
