Backcountry Hunters & Anglers and Colorado Parks and Wildlife are teaming up on the stewardship of greater sage-grouse habitat in Northwest Colorado!
Join us in Meeker on Saturday, October 4, 2025 for a hands-on volunteer project in the Axial Basin. We’ll be working to remove unnecessary fencing to help improve sage-grouse movement and habitat.
Schedule & Activities:
Meet in Meeker at 8:30 AM on Saturday, October 4. We’ll convoy about 30 minutes to the worksite.
Workday runs from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM with a lunch break (lunch provided).
That evening, join us at Smoking River Brewery in Meeker at 6:00 PM for dinner and drinks—on us!
On Sunday, October 5, we may host an optional half-day of work if additional help is needed.
What to expect:
Volunteers will help with fence removal, an important step in restoring greater sage-grouse habitat connectivity. No special skills are needed, but participants should be prepared to walk 2–5 miles over uneven terrain and engage in physical work.
What to Bring:
- Sturdy boots, long pants, and a hat
- Work gloves (if you have them)
- Water, sun protection, and layers for changing weather
- All tools and safety equipment will be provided.
Make a Weekend of It: Suggested camping and lodging locations will be shared soon. Meeker and the surrounding region offer excellent opportunities for hunting, fishing, hiking, and exploring public lands—so bring your gear and stay for the weekend!
RSVP Required: Meeting location in Meeker will be shared with those who RSVP.
