Join the Michigan chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers to help remove beaver dams that are restricting downstream flow and water levels. The goal is to remove several beaver dams that will be accessed through private land. Even though this project is on private land there is a large portion of publicly accessed managed trout water in the Russ Forest that is directly affected by the warming of the ponds. Dowagiac Creek and the Dowagiac River in general are one of the better trout fisheries in SW Michigan.
All participants are required to follow social distancing measures. Trash bags, gloves, hand sanitizer, and water will be provided. Participants are asked to pack a lunch or snacks for the day. Participants will need to wear waders or hip boots (not provided) as most of the work will require being in or around the creek. Volunteers may also bring handsaws, pruners, and other tools that may provide useful. Please dress appropriately for the weather and work at hand.
** This event will be capped at 10 volunteers. So if you would like to join us for the day please contact the event leader via email to reserve your spot!
