event_description: Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the San Miguel Basin Gunnison Sage Grouse Working Group are looking for 10-12 Backcountry Hunters and Anglers volunteers to help make this project a success. RSVP to hold your space! When: Saturday, October 7, 9am-2pmWhat to Bring: muck boots, work gloves, refillable water bottle, lunch/snacks, rain gear, layered clothing, hat, sunscreen, and bug sprayThe San Miguel Basin Gunnison Sage Grouse Working Group needs your assistance to finish building Zeedyk structures.  Zeedyk structures, designed by Bill Zeedyk, restore wet meadow habitat that is critical to the federally threatened Gunnison sage-grouse. Zeedykes are rock structures that help stop head cutting erosion and assist water to naturally spread back over meadows. This encourages native flowering plants and insects, the critical food source for sage-grouse chicks. This work involves placing softball-sized rocks, such as one rock dams, in areas and in ways that will help fill incised water channels and stop harmful erosion running through naturally wet meadows. For a more comprehensive look at building these structures, check out Building Zeedyks here.Well wrap up and celebrate another successful project with a beer and some homemade chili on the house. Please contact Leslie Kaminski with any questions regarding the workday at kaminskilesliegmail.com
