Bitterbrush Restoration Planting 2023

BHA volunteers, friends, family and more will be helping to plant thousands of bitterbrush plugs on the weekend of October 28th & 29th and we need your help!

RSVP BELOW!

Saturday evening after the planting party, we hope you will join us for our Beer, Bands & Bitterbrush Stands event located 30 minutes from the project site in the Lost Sierra Valley. We will have on-site camping, live music, food, raffles and a campfire story from a special guest.

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is leading the Hallelujah Junction Wildlife Area Post-Fire Rehabilitation and Connectivity Project in collaboration with the Department of Fish & Wildlife, the Washoe Tribe, the Sagebrush in Prisons Project, Wildlands Network, including support from Sitka Gear and CalTrans. This large-scale rehabilitation project will restore critical winter range habitat for mule deer, pronghorn antelope, and elk. We are also working closely with the Washoe Tribe to include culturally significant plants in our restoration.

In addition, our project leverages the work of Wildlands Network along 395 to study wildlife movement through existing culverts and at-grade crossings in order to help inform Caltrans of priority areas for wildlife crossing infrastructure and investments. Our collective efforts augment a million-dollar project that Caltrans has planned for hwy 395 along our work area.

Check out the storymap (below) for an in depth look at the project.
