Public lands hunters and anglers call on House members in California,
Pennsylvania and Idaho to support the bill’s quick passage

WASHINGTON – North American organization Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is launching an ad campaign today in California, Pennsylvania and Idaho urging members of Congress to support U.S. public lands and waters and expand public access opportunities by quickly passing the Great American Outdoors Act (HR 1957).

Earlier this month, the Senate voted 73-25 to pass the bipartisan legislation. The House, which signaled its intent to advance the Great American Outdoors Act to a vote before Congress adjourned for the August recess, could consider the bill before the end of the month.

The legislation would fully dedicate funds to the Land and Water Conservation Fund at $900 million annually and fund maintenance backlogs on public lands and waters at $9.5 billion over five years. BHA has consistently worked both to ensure robust funding for public land management agencies and to secure full, dedicated funding for LWCF, the nation’s most effective public access and conservation program.

The ads ask House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Rep. Mike Simpson (ID), and Rep. Matt Cartwright (CA) to prioritize passage of the Great American Outdoors Act.

“Our elected leaders in the House have a once in a generation opportunity to establish a legacy of conservation stewardship that will outlast us all,” said BHA President and CEO Land Tawney. “The Great American Outdoors Act responds to the voices of untold hunters, anglers and other outdoor recreationists, who have united around its passage. It drew strong, bipartisan support in the Senate, which decisively passed it just last week. And it addresses critical and overdue funding needs on our public lands and waters.

“For those of us who care about conserving and sustaining access to our wild public lands, waters and wildlife,” Tawney stated, “there is no greater imperative for the House of Representatives than to immediately pass the Great American Outdoors Act. “

The BHA ads are running across social media platforms and streaming services.
