The AFI Leadership Development camp is an annual leadership focused event designed to be part time hunting or fishing and part time learning how to manage our small section of BHA and make the most of our opportunities. The topic to be discussed this year is transitioning from our 2025 Strategic plan and goals (We crushed it by the way) to our 2030 Strategic Plan.
High level targets for the new Strategic plan:
20,000 participants annually
Fundraising, Fundraising, Fundraising

Media and Marketing for the future
Who can Attend:
This event is open to any active AFI leader (read as Installation and State/Regional Leaders). The evening meetings will be recorded and distributed internally and will have a virtual component. I know we have an event every three days on average and many of you are committed to hosting members of the military community in the backcountry but if your schedule is open we have enough room for 12.
Where is it:
This event is in Miller, South Dakota which is a small town an hour east of Pierre SD. The area has plentiful pheasants, marginal Sharp-tail and Prairie Chickens, and some Hungarian Partridge.
The Hunting Opportunity:
We will be spending our mornings in teams of two or three pursuing upland birds on the various public access areas in the area. South Dakota is an interesting State for Access and we will be able to pursue all the various "Backcountry in your Backyard" access points and types of land.
Why you should come:
I would like as many AFI leaders at the table for these meetings as possible. Moving from 2000 participants a year to 20,000 participants is a hell of an ask but that's what Patrick Berry wants us to shoot for so that's what we are going to do. A big piece of information, I want all attendees to come prepared with whether virtual or in person is sponsorship, fundraising, and corporate partner needs. Come ready to discuss support you need, not what you could use to host your events with but what you need to make your events perfect.
