Pete Madsen’s interest in the outdoors began at a young age; some of his earliest memories include catching nightcrawlers and smallmouth bass with his aunt in New Brunswick, Canada. His childhood and adolescent experiences consisted of endless hours spent with his Crosman Pumpmaster 760 and fishing golf course ponds near Phoenix, Arizona. A self-taught hunter and the only one in his family, Pete cut his teeth hunting small game in the Arizona desert before pursuing an education, career, and lifestyle in the outdoors that led him from coast to coast.

While earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Management from Northern Arizona University, Pete’s interest in and passion for wild things and wild places grew. He worked as a recreational guide in a variety of roles, from ziplining in the redwoods to pack trips in the Idaho wilderness and other adventures. He has also worked in wildlife and habitat management positions with state and federal agencies, private landowners and corporations, and non-profits.

Pete now resides outside of Butte, Montana with his family, pets, and pack llamas. He enjoys almost everything outdoors, and is always interested in learning new skills and new places. Some of Pete’s favorite pursuits are catching backcountry brookies, chasing bugling bulls, gobbling toms and rutting bucks, downing doves and ducks, and many more.

Pete is stoked to fill the role of Habitat Stewardship Coordinator and to help improve wildlife habitat and movement across the landscape.
