PLEASE CONTACT EVENT CONTACT LEADER AT 575-693-8869 TO PARTICIPATE.Join us for the 4th Annual Kiowa National Grasslands Habitat Improvement Project April 5-7 near Roy New Mexico. Volunteers will work alongside USFS staff to verify or raise the bottom wire of allotment fencing and remove tumbleweeds from the fenceline to allow pronghorn to more easily traverse the grasslands. This work will enable pronghorn to access the food, water, space and cover they need to survive. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of the shortgrass prairie ecosystem from USFS staff. Participants may show up Friday evening or early Saturday. Camping is free. We will have a wild game potluck Friday evening as we share stories around the campfire. Come out to improve Pronghorn Habitat, camp out with like-minded individuals and have fun!Weekend ScheduleFriday 4/5 Arrive to campSaturday 4/6 Workday, wild game potluck and campfire stories at nightSunday 4/7 Optional workday until 12 pmCampsite - Mills Rim Campground Volunteers should be ready for moderate hiking and labor. Volunteers should wear appropriate work clothing including sun protection, leather boots, gloves, and eye protection and bring food, snacks, water, first aid, required medications and communications devices. BHA will have extra work gloves Saturday and Sunday morning will be filled with fence modifications and pulling barbed wire strands and sign installations, directed by our National Forest contact. Be prepared for weather including possible rain or sunny days. This event is kid and dog friendly!
