event_description: What better way to celebrate Public Lands Day than removing barbed wire fencing on public lands to improve important mule deer and elk winter range? Well be working in an area where the herds were hit the hardest by the most recent winter where fence mortality was at an all time high. Fence mortality in Moffat CountyWeve partnered up with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to do just that on public land in the Northwest region of Colorado and we need your help! Join us for a weekend of stewardship and campfire stories in the Maybell area, home to two of the largest elk and mule deer herds in Colorado.ScheduleFriday (Anytime): Arrive at camp (location TBD) and set up (Campers are welcome) Saturday: - 8:00am drive to site - 8:30-12:00 Remove fence - 12:00-1:00 lunch provided by BHA- 1:00-3:00 Remove fence- 3:00-7:00 Free - 7:00 Potluck DinnerSunday: Pack up and head outWhat to Expect: Volunteers will remove fence staples and wire clips using bolt cutters and fence pliers, roll up wire, and remove T-Posts using a tpost puller. We will work in the field from 8:00 to 3:00. In the  evening on Saturday the 23rd we will have a potluck dinner and enjoy beverages donated by Upslope Brewing while we relax around a campfire at camp.  Even if you can’t swing the overnight stay we would love to have the help for the removal.We will be removing woven wire working on public land near the Bitterbrush State Wildlife Area about 3 miles outside of the town of Maybell. Joining us, will be CPW Biologist Brian Holmes who will tell us more about the work he is doing and the current state of the local wildlife populations after one of the harshest winters in history.BHA will provide beer and n/a beverages for Friday and Saturday as well as lunch on the work day. What to bring: Leather gloves, safety glasses (sunglasses are fine), and fence tools if you prefer to use your own. A water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and proper clothing for working outside and removing fence (jeans or work pants, boots, long-sleeve shirt).Membership not required.
