Mid-Atlantic Chapter of BHA strongly believes restrictions on Sunday hunting are an impediment to reasonable hunting access and opportunity and we support efforts to reverse such limitations in the Mid-Atlantic region. In the past, the chapter has advocated for lifting Sunday hunting restrictions in Virginia and Maryland.
Maryland has current legislation to allow Sunday hunting and we are in support of Maryland House Bill 1063, sponsored by Delegates Boyce, Korman, Allen, Bouchat, Hornberger, T. Morgan, Rose, Ruth, and Tomlinson, and Maryland Senate Bill 643, sponsored by Senator Bailey.
Being cross-filed bills, both provide that the Department of Natural Resources shall adopt regulations allowing persons to hunt on Sundays during the game bird and game mammal seasons. The regulations adopted under these measures shall at a minimum allow Sunday hunting on the hours and days authorized for Sunday hunting by species, hunting season, and county on June 30, 2027.
The bills also repeal the prohibition against hunting migratory game birds on Sundays and authorize the Department to allow Sunday hunting for migratory game birds, subject to certain requirements.
The Mid-Atlantic Chapter supports expanded Sunday hunting opportunities in Maryland and encourage members and supporters to contact their legislators and urge them to support HB 1063 and SB 643.
