The Iowa Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is honored to offer a 2026-2027 Statewide Special Non-Resident Deer Tag Via Auction!
This is the third year in a row that the Iowa Chapter of BHA has been awarded this tag as a fundraising opportunity for BHA. The winner of this special auction will be awarded one tag for a whitetail of any sex plus one antlerless tag. Iowa consistently ranks in the Top 5 states for trophy whitetails, but being drawn for a tag as a nonresident can often take several years.
The Iowa Chapter of BHA continues to pledge all chapter proceeds to directly increasing public land and public access in Iowa. The Iowa Chapter of BHA used 100% of the earnings from the 2024 & 2025 Deer Tag Auctions to identify and increase access and opportunity through land acquisitions and easements. In total, the chapter has added 1,171 acres of new hunting and fishing access in the state.
50% of the proceeds from this auction will go back to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to help conservation efforts in the state.
With less than 2% of its land open to public access, we must protect and maintain the opportunities we have through grassroots advocacy and stewardship, while finding new ways to increase access and opportunities for hunting and fishing.
The special license allows you to hunt statewide (landowner permission would be required on private land) for one any-sex deer during your choice of season - Archery, Shotgun (which includes straight-walled rifle cartridges), or late Muzzleloader. In addition to the winning bid, the high bidder will have to pay directly to the Iowa DNR the normal cost of the hunt & habitat fee of $144. The license is valid for the hunter’s choice of 2026 or 2027 hunting seasons. The winning bidder will be contacted and connected with Denise Roberg, Specialty License Manager at Iowa DNR, to specify the choice of year and season.

The auction begins on Friday, April 17th, 2026, at 1:00 PM CST and ends on Sunday, June, 28th at 8:00 PM CST.
