Thank you to everyone who came out to our Public Lands Pint night in Anchorage on August 5th!
Approximately twenty people joined the Alaska Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers at Double Shovel Cider Co. in Anchorage to hear a presentation from Dr. Jayde Ferguson from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game’s Fish Health and Pathology lab. Jayde gave an overview of the lab's mission, including how they contribute to the health and management of fish stocks across the state, and current research on salmon stocks of concern in various watersheds throughout Alaska.
Topics of discussion included how changing water temperatures and diet have been impacting all salmonids in Alaska, how some diseases cause sickness and death at different salmon life stages, how and why new diseases may begin creeping into Alaska from ocean and freshwater systems to our south, which diseases are most prominent in our fisheries, and what to watch for as an informed angler.
We at the Alaska Chapter want to extend our thanks to Jayde for taking the time to give this presentation to the public and our members, and another thanks to the Fish Health Lab for their continued research and efforts to understand and maintain the health of fish across the state.
