Aquaduct Fence Removal Report - Manco, CO

Jarret Childers

On Saturday November 22, 6 adults volunteers, one child, and 3 BLM staff came together outside of Mancos, CO to remove a little over 1/4 mile of aged and damaged fencing which ran through some critical winter range for wildlife. The area is closed to protect wildlife December 1 - May 1 every year.

This is part of an old sheep allotment, and the fencing consisted of 3 strands barbed wire, 3’ of woven sheep wire, and one strand of smooth wire at ground level. Much of the fencing was decrepit and unsafe, and we are very glad it is removed.

The start of the morning was cold and very muddy due to weather for the week prior, but it dried up through the day. We pulled all the fencing in about 3 hours, then hauled it another quarter mile back to the trucks and dump trailer. During the work we had lots of great conversations, found some new hunting partners, and even found a couple mule deer sheds.
