MISSOULA, Mont. – Following today’s announcement by the Interior Department of a secretarial order that focuses on expanding public hunting and angling opportunities, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers President and CEO Land Tawney issued the following statement:

“Our hunting and fishing traditions rely on both conservation and access, with insufficient access being the No. 1 reason cited by sportsmen for forgoing time afield. The importance of Secretary Zinke’s commitment to sustaining and expanding public access opportunities to the outdoors, therefore, cannot be overstated.

“We’re gratified that Secretary Zinke is following up with his secretarial order from March, and we look forward to working with the secretary and his staff to enact access measures that enable all Americans to experience and enjoy our public lands. Just as important, we urge the secretary to advance a similar order to enhance fish and wildlife habitat.”
