Fairbanks Alaska Wilderness Medicine Course

Take advantage of the unique skillsets that Fairbanks physicians and specialists have to offer. This 1-day course is for Alaskans Fairbanksans teaching Fairbanksans. Know you’ll walk away with skills to keep you and your family safe and healthy in the backcountry. Topics include exposure threats, bone and soft tissue injuries, emergency field evacuation procedures, eye and dental issues, bear safety, and so much more.

 

Self-rescue might be your only option. Learn what to do!

 

Reinforce lecture material with a rotation through our hands-on stations where you’ll learn to translate theory to action. You’ll learn from medical experts and professionals who are trained in handling field injuries. This program will include THREE action-based sessions:

  • Wounds and Stapling Fundamentals
  • Fracture Management


Course Extras:

  • Gear Raffles and Giveaways (sponsored by) Heather’s Choice / Beaver Sports / and REI 
  • Demonstrations on gear selection, GPS, satellite phones, water purification, backcountry nutrition, and more.
  • Red Cross booth for CPR training information and personal demos.
