Sarah Topp resides in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan and works as the County Conservationist for Marinette County, WI. Her scope of work is very broad, but has a focus on water quality including agricultural runoff management as well as fish passage and spawning habitat. She is Vice Chair of the Michigan Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers and spends much of her time focusing on inclusive events for women and the LGBT+ community. Any free time she has is spent exploring public lands and waters with her upland bird hunting dog, Timber.
Dru Mark-Wilson originally hails from Northern Michigan, and is a newer Ohioan. Not only does she sit on the Ohio BHA Chapter Board, but she is now the Education & Outreach Coordinator for Defiance Soil & Water Conservation District and very much loves educating about her favorite subject, conservation. Dru enjoys fishing, hunting, kayaking, backpacking, and archery practice. Inspired by her mother, Dru became an avid angler and gained a deep appreciation for the outdoors at a young age. Growing up it became evident that access to the outdoors isn’t as accessible for everyone as she experienced. She believes conservation isn’t just a way to make a living or a hobby, but is a moral code.
Kelly VanBeek is a lifelong Wisconsinite and currently calls the greater Madison area home. She's been a professional wildlife biologist in public service for 8 years, with experiences including managing habitat on both private and public lands, public engagement on many wildlife issues, and integrating ecological and social science at large geographic scales for birds of conservation concern. Kelly has a passion for empowering women in the conservation profession, as land owners and stewards, and the outdoor recreation space. Her calendar pulses around spring turkeys and fall whitetails, with a smattering of canoe camping, trail hiking, and upland game chasing in between.
Heather Shaw is a wildlife biologist who lives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula near Marquette, where she spends her days chasing grouse and trout with her Llewellin setter, Chip as well as her better half and his two Brittany’s. Heather sits on the Board of Directors for Michigan BHA. She received her Master’s in Conservation Biology from Central Michigan University and has worked for various state, federal and non-profit organizations whose goal has ultimately been to improve fish and wildlife habitat on public lands through on the ground implementation, strategic planning, collaboration with public stakeholders, and policy engagement. Heather has been very active in the hunting and angling community in Michigan and has a strong passion for bringing outdoorswomen together, especially over bird dogs. She strives to welcome other women into this community and hopes to continue to help break down the one size fits all model for sportswomen and remold the sporting traditions that we hold so dear.
