Wisconsin Armed Forces Initiative is taking 16 members of the Military Salmon Fishing out of Port Washington Wisconsin August 11th.
The focus of theses AFI camps os not a one in a lifetime experience but to teach participants everything they need to know to replicate the experience of Salmon fishing the Great Lakes. Mentors will talk through Great Lakes fishery Biology, Salmon trolling techniques, Salmon run scheduling on the Great Lakes, how to fish from shore with traditional and fly tackle, among other topics. All Veterans, Active duty Military, National Guard, reserves, and gold star families are welcome to apply to attend.
Our small fleet of boats are leaving the Harbor at 4:45 A.M. SHARP and returning around 11:00 A.M. there are many options in Port Washington for lunch as well as hotel stay for the night before if you are driving in the night before. Camping options are available just north of Port Washington and are an option as well.
Please Bring:
WI Fishing License
Appropriate Clothing (Great Lakes can be cold in August so watch the forecast)
Close toed shoes
Gallon Ziplock bags and coolers for your catch
Water bottle
Snacks for the boat (Coffee, pretzels, chips, etc)
Tips for our volunteer captains to help cover gas (optional)
