event_description: Join Alaska Backcountry Hunters and Anglers for a community clean up at the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge. The refuge provides critical habitat for 8 anadromous fish species and 230 species of birds. With the exceptional habitat and ease of access for hunters, anglers, and other recreationists, the refuge is a treasured spot by all of Juneau. Here’s your chance to give back to a cornerstone of Juneau’s hunting and angling communities! What to expect:Pack up the family and a few friends for this event. Bring light layers to keep you dry and warm, and maybe even layers and a hat for the occasional sunny sucker hole. Be sure to wear closed-toed shoes, bring work gloves if you want something more than disposable gloves, and snacks and beverages that will keep you hydrated and having fun. If you have a tarp, bring it to help move large items off of the refuge with a little more ease.Bring your own water bottle and get a free AK BHA sticker for it! Well have water on site.We will be meeting at the Switzer Creek Access Point and will disburse from there. When participants are wrapped up, they can drop their trash bags off with the event coordinators. BHA members advocate for public hunting and fishing and we work to maintain and improve access to places to hunt and fish. We also speak up for wildlife, guided by the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Finally, we believe in and advocate for fair chase in pursuit of fish and game. If those ideals resonate with you, please come join us to learn more and maybe become part of BHA. This event is free and open to all. Can’t join us, but want to support Public Land, Waters and Wildlife? Join BHA today or make a donation.
