Western Colorado University Hosts 3rd Annual Chili Cookoff

Club member, Brody, serves chili samples on campus to promote their event.

Western Colorado University’s collegiate chapter of BHA hosted their 3rd annual chili cookoff at Timbers Sports Bar on Friday, February 21. Timbers offered half-price drinks to any BHA member, and folks who signed up to be a member got an additional drink. The event had about 30 attendees and six brought their own homemade wild game chili to enter into the cookoff. We had quite the variety of wild game to dish up; each chili featured either elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, or black bear. All of them were delicious, but three were selected as our winners! The club also raffled off some BHA merchandise to during our membership sweepstakes. Overall, the event was a success, and we are looking forward to planning our 4th annual cookoff next winter.

The Gunnison Wildlife Association was also present at this event; they came with a table, sign-up materials, and some big huge deer and sheep skulls. They are very supportive of the Gunnison Valley BHA crew and are looking forward to collaborating with us on events, whether it’s a pint night or a day doing field work. We are lucky to have another awesome wildlife-based group in the valley!
