The Outdoors for All Scholarship

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers works for the future of hunting and angling on wild, healthy lands and waters. The education of our youth and opportunity for all to experience the outdoors is at the core of BHA. At our 2021 Annual North American Rendezvous we announced the Aidan Long/Outdoors for All Scholarship to celebrate the life of Aidan Long, son of longtime BHA leader, volunteer and friend, Ben Long.

Aidan Nichols Long, 2004-2021, loved life and nature every day. Growing up in Montana his best times included camping, canoeing and fishing with his mom and dad, Karen Nichols and Ben Long. Despite catastrophic epilepsy, Aidan remained a joyful explorer of the natural world. Aidan’s parents are grateful to BHA for creating a fund to help, even in a small way, level the playing field so more young people can enjoy the benefits of time spent outdoors.

This scholarship is open to anyone under the age of 21 to mitigate the expense of outdoor recreation and conservation education, as well as to expand experiences and opportunities for people with disabilities via the purchase or temporary acquisition of adaptive recreation equipment. The fund was established through a generous donation by MeatEater, and we are seeking gifts to match these funds for an additional $5,000 in donations.

To honor Aidan’s love of the outdoors we are happy to empower future conservation leaders to expand their experiences in the outdoors!
