Thankful for YOU, Alaska BHA

There is a new threat to Alaska's Brooks Range.

Veterans Against the Ambler Road:

A Call for Responsible Stewardship of Public Lands

"As a veteran who has dedicated my life to serving this country, I am deeply troubled by an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would revive the Ambler Road project. This proposal, which seeks to expedite the construction of a private 211-mile road in Alaska for mining purposes, raises serious ethical and conservation concerns."

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is proud to support Hunters & Anglers for the Brooks Range in its defense of America’s most remote and wild hunting and fishing grounds. This community played a critical role in achieving a conservation victory for Alaska’s Brooks Range in June 2024, and today we need your help facing a new threat to this unique resource.

Taking action is easy. Join us in signing and sharing this action alert from Hunters and Anglers for the Brooks Range TODAY.

More than 14,000 hunters and anglers are on the record supporting the BLM’s decision to defend the wild character of the Brooks Range. If the Ambler Road provision is included in the final NDAA, it would upend a robust public process, ignore scientific review, and undermine the future that many rural residents want for their communities and families.

Stand Up for the Brooks Range

We want to hear from our membership before we complete our 2025 planning. Please take our survey!

Alaska BHA is in the process of planning for 2025 goals and initiatives. We are expanding our efforts and ability to put boots on the ground with stewardship projects on the Kenai Peninsula and the Tongass, including some conservation science with Sitka Black-tailed deer and partnering with other hook and bullet conservation organizations.

We engage on wild public lands policy like the Ambler Road, the Tongass National Forest Plan Revision, the Juneau Douglas Second Crossing proposal on the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge and more.

We all live, work, and recreate on or near wild public lands in Alaska, and we are fortunate to have those opportunities.

Alaska BHA works to keep public lands wild, so we can ensure our natural heritage to hunt and fish in primitive settings for generations.

Speaking of the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge...

The Southeast Alaska Land Trust (SEALT) partnered with six local artists to celebrate the beauty of public lands we protect for the community. This project emphasizes the importance of conserved land not only for ecosystem services like wildlife habitat and flood mitigation, but also as spaces of respite and creative regeneration (for some of us, this is waterfowl hunting or fishing).

Each artist visited conservation sites and painted original pieces inspired by (and created on) protected land. Proceeds support the SEALT mission to permanently protect some of Southeast Alaska’s most beautiful places, the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge.

SEALT is hosting a one night only pop-up art show during Gallery Walk, on December 6, 2024, at their office space in downtown Juneau: 119 Seward St. Drop by to see the art collections, chat with SEALT staff and learn more about their work, enjoy a home-baked treat or festive beverage.

If you’re unable to attend, you can also see the paintings during their online sale, which will go through December 20, at sealtart.org.
