Texas BHA Funds TPWD Scholarship with $8,000 Donation

On May 26,2022 the Texas Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (TXBHA) provided an $8,000.00 direct donation to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) in support of public land and water access and habitat improvement.

The donation will fund a temporary position which will work directly with multiple Wildlife Management Areas (WMA's) and also fund an American Fisheries Society (AFS) Hutton Scholar to be dedicated towards adding capacity and support for the TPWD River Access program. The Hutton Program pairs selected underrepresented high school Juniors and Seniors with a TPWD professional mentor for 8 weeks during the summer months. It is a fantastic program which also helps TPWD regarding Diversity and Inclusion goals.

The funds from BHA will enable TPWD to double the number of Hutton Scholars this summer from 1 to 2.

“It is extremely important that current and perspective BHA members know what the TX Chapter is doing for public land conservation, access, and habitat improvement. This $8,000.00 donation relates directly to BHA’s mission while leveraging TPWD’s fantastic partnership. These funds translate to real efforts which in turn improve conservation in Texas”, said Grahame Jones, Texas BHA Chair.
