Join Wyoming BHA for a Saturday of stewardship work assisting Lander BLM with fence removal near along the Sweetwater River. We will be removing approximately .6 miles of dilapidated fence that forms the boundary of the Sweetwater Canyon Wilderness Study Area. This area has been identified by BLM Wildlife Staff, BLM Range Staff, and grazing permittees as no longer necessary. Removal of this fence removes a barrier to wildlife passage in an area critical for Elk and Moose winter range and increases the scenic values of the Wilderness Study Area.
We will meet at 7:30 am Saturday morning at the Lander BLM field office (1335 Main Street Lander, WY 82520) from there we will convoy to the project site (42.44451, -108.44017) for an introduction/safety brief and work until 4pm. Joining the convoy is advised as there are a number of closed and private roads that prevent easy navigation of the area. Participants are encouraged to bring their fishing gear, camp chairs, coolers etc. and enjoy a beautiful day on the Sweetwater following the event.
Volunteers should bring: Hiking boots, work gloves, snacks/water, eye protection, clothing layers for a full day outside (long sleeves are encouraged to protect against sun and barbed wire),
