Grab your gloves! The weekend of June 23 - 25th we are going to remove some bad fencing from the beautiful Spotted Dog WMA near Deer Lodge. This WMA was previously a working cattle ranch and has an abundance of old unneeded barbed wire fencing. Volunteers along with staff from Montana FWP will remove as much of this fencing as possible on Saturday to make Spotted Dog even better for the elk, mule deer, whitetail, moose and antelope that call this special place home during the area's tough winters.
Volunteers will need to arrive the evening of Friday, June 23rd and plan on working all day Saturday, June 24th. Volunteers can leave after the work is done Saturday but are welcome to stay that evening, camp and leave Sunday. Meeting and camping area is TBD and will be sent out to RSVPs the week before the event.
Cambie is generously providing lunch for the work day. Volunteers will need to bring all other meals, snacks and water, as well as camping gear. Please bring gloves and safety glasses if you have them and know they fit, and any wire cutters, saws, and fence spoolers you may have! BHA will have extra gloves and safety glasses on hand and provide some tools. This event is not dog friendly, but older kids are welcome as long as they are capable of handling tools and cutting strands of barbed wire that are potentially dangerous.
RSVPS are required for this event so we can plan meals and camping space. Detailed directions to the camping spot will follow in email closer to event date.
