event_description: Wondering how to find hunting spots for this fall? Want to get to know some of your public land? Want to figure out what this "scouting" stuff is all about and see what it looks like in-person? Join BHA for a fun, informal way to get ready for the fall hunting season and explore our public lands together. Snake Mountain Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is in Weybridge, about 15 minutes West of Middlebury, VT, and about 1 hour from Burlington and Rutland. This 1200-acre piece of public land managed by the Vt Fish and Wildlife Department for wildlife, habitat and access for hunting and recreation.Well meet at the Snake Mountain Road parking area on the East side of the Snake Mountain WMA at 8:30am to go over a map of the area together, and then split into small groups to spend a couple hours scouting some of the terrain and habitat features ahead of the deer and small game hunting seasons. Its a great way to get to know the area, meet some like-minded people, do some scouting ahead of the fall and maybe even learn something about habitat and wildlife or how to narrow-down an entire forest to find good spots to hunt. If youre a long-time hunter its also a great way to give back and share some of your insight while meeting some new friends. If youre a new hunter its a great opportunity to put some of what youve read and heard about scouting into action, with the opportunity to ask questions, get feedback and try it out in a supportive setting. At noon well have an informal tailgate lunch (BYO) to compare notes. Bring footwear for off-trail travel, plenty of water and your lunch, and make sure to pack weather-appropriate clothes. If you have Onx or a similar mapping app be sure to download maps of the area ahead of time for offline use. As a bonus, one lucky winner will go home with a OnX membership to help with your own scouting this fall. RSVP is helpful but not necessary, please direct any questions to vermontbackcountryhunters.orgBring: water, lunch, footwear and clothing for off-trail travel, weather-appropriate clothingDirections: https://goo.gl/maps/LAQrEybfvqkZRHJX8
