Nothing defines hunting the big woods like wool pants and coats in the classic buffalo check pattern. Johnson Woolen Mills has been at it in Vermont for nearly two centuries. They hosted us for the Vermont Northwoods Story Slam at their store Saturday, August 31st and it was a great time!
They graciously donated over $1000 worth of goods for raffle and give-aways. The main prizes were a "Hunting package" with pants, shirt, crusher hat, orange vest, gloves, socks, light weight jacket and an "After the hunt package" with a blanket, PJ's, apron, socks, hot pads, stuffed animal and hoody.
The evening started off with Gene Richards, owner of Johnson Wollen Mills and Eric Nuse, VT BHA Team, retired game warden, and author of Vermont Wild , welcoming everyone while folks chatting and enjoying some great food and beverages from Black Diamond BBQ, Jasper Hill Farm, and Rock Art Brewing.
Chris Borgatti then got the show started with a review and highlight of the great work the Vermont team has done for hunters and anglers in the state including the dedication they had to testify and help stop Senate Bill 258 from dismantling the VT Fish and Wildlife Board.
Eric Nuse, was the emcee for the event and kept the night moving with a great list of storytellers including; Tovar Cerulli, BHA member and author of "The Mindful Carnivore", Matt Breton, VT Team and New England Chapter Board member and author of "Bucks That Got Away: From Failure to Success in the Art of Tracking, Brett Ladeau, champion turkey caller and local NWTF chair, Ethan Dreissigacker @ethendres- VT Team and New England Chapter Board member, Travis Tremblay, VT Team and his son Ezra, Harry Miller, and Joey Davis, of Northwoods Whitetails.
Afterword the floor was opened to crowd for the lightning round of stories and the vintage Johnson Woolen Mills "fashion show".
