Singer/Songwriter Max Gomez grew up in Taos, New Mexico, where he fell under the influence of country blues early on and developed a songwriting style that was uniquely his. As a budding performer, Max apprenticed in the rarefied musical micro-climate of northern New Mexico, where troubadours like Michael Martin Murphey and Ray Wylie Hubbard helped foster a Western folk sound both cosmic and country.
He received critical acclaim upon the release of his debut album Rule The World (2013, New West Records); and his subsequent EP, Me and Joe (2017, Brigadoon Records), contained a freshly minted classic, “Make It Me.”
He has shared billing on hundreds of stages with stalwarts of the genre like James McMurtry, Buddy Miller, John Hiatt, Patty Griffin, Tommy James & The Shondells, Jeff Beck, and Johnny Depp. Judging by the company he keeps, Gomez is poised to emerge as a prominent voice of Americana’s next generation. The forthcoming album, Memory Mountain, is set to be released in August 2025.
Habitat connectivity is critical to supporting healthy wildlife populations and obsolete fencing on our public lands is often a lethal barrier. Help us to support our local herds and meet some amazing people along the way!
Public lands are vital to New Mexicans way of life; they provide us with wild places to roam freely, opportunities to hunt and fish and fill the freezer, and the are critical to sustain healthy populations of wildlife. BHA provides the opportunity to be a public land steward through our stewardship program.
On Saturday we will break out into teams and tackle the impactful work of fence removal. The Rio Grande del Norte is a crucial wintering grounds for elk and pronghorn. As they migrate out of the high country and onto the plateau they have to cross multiple fences. Fencing can fragment big game's habitat by hindering their ability to freely move. We will be removing un-needed fencing as well as modifying fencing to be wildlife friendly. Your work will have a direct positive impact on big game populations and the animals that call the monument home.
Friday: Campers can arrive at the Rio Bravo Group Site at Orilla Verde Recreation Area. Google Maps Link
Saturday: 1/2 day of stewardship work along the Rio Grande on the monument. This site and work is still in planning. We will be back to camp ~1:00 pm. The Rally for the Rio Grande del Norte will start at 4:00 at New Mexico River Adventures headquarters in Embudo, NM. Google Maps Link
Sunday: Stewardship-A full day of fence removal on the National Monument. The campsite is reserved for those that want to camp Sunday night.
