Join BHA's Utah State University College Chapter on Public Lands Day to open a wildlife corridor for the coming winter. They will be working to remove the southeast section of barbed wire fence from a cattle exclosure in Spawn Creek, allowing big game (moose, elk, mule deer, etc.) to move freely while cattle are not present on the range. The barbed wire will be replaced with bucking pole style fencing before the cattle are returned to graze this spring. This project will help protect a critical watershed that is habitat for a variety of native wildlife including the native Bear River Cutthroat.
Where to meet: Meet the team at 8;30 am 9/22 at the Logan Ranger Station, 1500 US-89, Logan, UT 84321. Volunteers will drive or carpool from the Ranger Station to the creek trailhead. If you can volunteer to transport people contact Tyler.
What to expect: After meeting at the ranger station volunteers will hike for about an hour on a trail with some slight elevation gain. Volunteers should come prepared with water, a sack lunch, snacks and work gloves. No work experience is required and all tools will be supplied. It's recommended that volunteers wear comfortable clothes they don't mind getting dirty, hiking boots and a hat.
Who to contact: The BHA College Chapter VP and project manager is Tyler Coleman. Tyler is also fly fishing guide with a passion for conservation and leadership. Contact Tyler with all questions related to this important effort.
