event_description: Event Overview: Come help NM Backcountry Hunters & Anglers clean up the banks of the Rio Grande near Algodones, NM, on Sunday, Sept.20. This popular fishing and boat launching location on the Rio Grande needs a little TLC. The clean up will begin at 9:30 am near the locked gates at the parking area near the Algodones diversion dam (see directions / waypoint), but if you prefer to caravan plan to meet at 09:00 in the Walgreens parking lot in Bernalillo NM (located at NM HWY 550 and N Camino Del Pueblo). We will begin trash clean up around 9:30 and hopefully hit all of the publicly accessible areas by lunchtime. The banks of the river are about a ¼ mile from the parking lot so plan to pack out trash a short distance (wagons or something similar may come in handy). Volunteers will want to bring snacks or lunch, drinking water, sun protection, work gloves, and face mask. Trash bags will be provided. BHA Board Member Adam Barkalow will handle trash hauling and dumping.First Lite will be donating $5 back to BHA for every bag of trash packed out (combined max. donation of $10,000). From the I-25 exit, make a left on NM 315 and travel west 0.4 miles to the intersection of NM 313 / Camino Real and make a left (headed south). In approximately 1.5 miles turn right onto a dirt service road along an arroyo and continue to the end of the road.
