Last Chance to Tally Pack-Out Totals!

The 2021 Public Land Pack-Out has ended, but we need your numbers! Please make sure to register your hauls from Public Lands Month by Oct. 8 so we can reach our goal!

Every September, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers members do something important -- we work together to clean up our public lands and waters.

September is our Public Land Pack-Out, an annual event where BHA members maintain the places we love by picking up and and taking out thousands of bags of garbage left in the places we all can call our own.

Last year, during one of the most difficult times we can remember, BHA members broke a record and hefted 4,175 bags of garbage out from our public lands. And with your help in 2021, we hope to crush our 10,000 bag goal.

Our volunteers made our 2020 Public Land Pack-Out a major success, just like they did during the inaugural Pack-Out in 2019. Volunteers removed 600 bags of trash from fishing access sites, wildlife management areas and other public lands and waters that year. In September 2020, our goal was 1,000 bags – a goal that was incinerated as our community tackled the challenge and carried over 4,000 bags.

This year, we're aiming higher...way higher! Our goal is 10,000 bags of trash packed out by BHA members during the month of September. We're relying on you to help us reach it.

You can pack out trash on your own while out hunting, fishing, floating or recreating or you can participate in a chapter organized Pack-Out event near you. Every bag of trash packed out during the month of September will count toward our 10,000 bag goal. And for every bag filled, First Lite will donate $3...up to $30,000 total. Please do your best to estimate total bags packed out for larger quantities of trash and tag your work online with #PublicLandPackOut! Remember, a standard bag of trash is a 13-gallon kitchen trash bag.

Grab some garbage bags and help us leave your public lands a little better than you found them!

Here’s how you can participate:

  • Pick up trash while you’re out hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and recreating and record the total number of bags of trash picked up. Then, submit through the portal below after it goes live on Sept. 1!

  • Share your pictures of public land trash being packed out on social media using the hashtag: #PublicLandPackout
