Join Missouri BHA as we partner up with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to remove invasive bush honeysuckle from the Boone's Crossing Unit of the Big Muddy National Fish and Wildlife Refuge!
Volunteers will remove invasive bush honeysuckle by cutting with hand saws and hand-pulling smaller plants. Event hosts will apply herbicide to cut stumps to prevent re-growth. Gloves, tools, and chemical will be provided. We will have a quick training session for those unfamiliar with identifying honeysuckle and also provide ID booklets that help with comparison to the native species.
Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. Closed-toed shoes or boots are required. Please bring a water bottle and snacks for yourselves. We will provide a water jug for refills, bug spray, and sunscreen.
Date: March 15th Event Time: 9am-12pm
Location: Boone's Crossing Unit, Big Muddy National Fish & Wildlife Refuge, Chesterfield, MO
MO Coordinates: 38.6770, -90.6469
For those unfamiliar with the area, navigate to Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex, Field CVAC A-3. There is no access road across the levee, so cars can be parked at the practice fields. From the pavilion, walk the paved path up the levee to cross over(GPS point provided: 38.6770, -90.6469), and you will see a brown kiosk - where we will meet.
