Would you like to lend a hand to New Mexico’s wildlife? NMBHA, along with RMEF and NM Wild Sheep Foundation are seeking volunteers to restore an existing pipe jack rail fence. This is also a great opportunity to see your NM Habitat Stamp funds put to good use. The water tank and the fence which it protects is located in an area which provides habitat for desert bighorn sheep, mule deer, elk and other small game and non-game species. Since the tank and fence were built in 2016, the pipe jacks tend to tip over with elk use, causing the entire side or sides to tip over as well since they are bolted together. To remedy this, the pipe jack fence needs anchors installed to prevent fence from tipping over. Therefore, motivated and able bodied volunteers are needed to hike and pack in tools and materials approximately one mile to the fence location. T-posts will then be pounded in with sledgehammers and holes will be drilled into pipe tubing posts to allow secure wiring of anchors to t-post anchors.
