The Armed Forces Initiative is the BHA program focused on creating conservationists within the military community. Pennsylvania AFI has teamed up with DCNR to teach our military community how to fly fish, learn about bass and their natural habitat, and the Public Land resources available in PA.
A Dual Skills camp is a learn-to-fish event where attendees will be mentored through a fly fishing experience from the planning phase through the post-harvest meal prep. AFI mentors will host attendees and teach participants how to fly fish. Increase your awareness of the history of public lands, how public lands and wildlife are managed, how public lands and wildlife management are funded, how the legislative process works, how to engage with legislators and policy influencers, current military and public land legislation and policy issues.
Rods, reels and tackle will be provided for use! Food and beverages will be provided. Participants will camp overnight.
Attendees can expect to learn:
- rod/reel selection
- knots
- presentation and casting techniques
- catch and release techniques
- local public land management
