NM BHA will join forces with the Santa Fe Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and the Adobe Whitewater Club, to clean up a stretch on the Rio Grande near Peña Blanca.
We will meet Saturday, March 12, at 9 a.m. and work til about 1 p.m. Trash bags, snacks and water will be provided but please bring your own lunch and drinks. Wear clothes that can get dirty and bring a sturdy pair of work gloves. Water boots will keep your feet dry along the river bank, and for anyone who would like to cross to the island in the river, you're welcome to bring your waders.
Staging will occur in the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District parking lot at Peña Blanca starting at 9 am. Directions are below.
From Santa Fe: Take I-25 south to the Cochiti exit (Exit 264/Hwy 16), turn right (west) on Hwy 16 and follow it approximately 10 miles to the intersection of Hwy 22. Turn left on Hwy 22 and proceed approximately 2 miles, through the town of Peña Blanca, to Arroyo Leyba Road. Turn right on Arroyo Leyba Road, immediately after Romero's Store and proceed 0.5 miles to the MRGCD gate.
From Albuquerque: Take I-25 north to the Santo Domingo exit (Exit 259/Hwy 22), turn left (southwest) and cross over I-25 onto Hwy 22 and follow it approximately 7 miles to Arroyo Lebya Road. Arroyo Leyba Road will be on your left, just before Romero's Store. Turn left and proceed 0.5 miles to the MRGCD gate.
