As part of our Public Lands Month effort BHA members and friends are invited to assist in a large organized beach cleanup of the Plum Island oceanfront. The majority of the beach is made up of the Parker River Wildlife Refuge, which is managed by the National Park Service. The southern tip of the island, Sandy Point State Park, is managed by the State of Massachusetts. All together, this stretch of public land is an important resource for a wide range of different user groups including beachgoers, birdwatchers, waterfowl hunters, surfers, and surf fishermen.
BHA folks will be working from 2 to 5, but feel free to come earlier if you like. Bring a pair of work gloves, snack, water bottle, and appropriate clothing for the weather. Children are welcome. No pets allowed in the refuge.
Directions: We will meet at Parking Lot 1, which is the first parking lot on the left after passing through the Refuge Entrance Gate on Refuge Road in Newbury, MA. There will be no refuge admission fee charged for cleanup participants.
A BHA Pint Night will follow from about 5:15 – 7:15 at a nearby location yet to be determined.
