Becoming a PA Hunter: Deer Scouting 101 / State College

Whitetail deer are ubiquitous in the Keystone State and are the number one game animal hunters seek in Penn’s Woods. But that doesn’t mean they are easy to find or kill, especially for new hunters. If understanding whitetail basics is holding you back from hunting them, join the Pennsylvania Chapter of BHA at one of our Deer Scouting events this summer.

These small-group events will be held in the field. BHA members and leaders will share their methods for assessing a piece of land for hunting whitetails.

The hosts for this event, which will be held on public land near State College, PA, will be Regional Manager Chris Hennessey and BHA member and volunteer Tyler Amy.

Participants will learn about :

  • Deer sign
  • Food and cover
  • Importance of wind
  • Deer movement
  • Stand selection
  • How to move to and from a stand and more

These events are for new and novice whitetail hunters only and are limited to 10 participants per event.

RSVP below to register and receive an email with time and exact location to meet.

Attendees should dress to be afield for two to three hours in off-trail terrain. Long pants, boots and water recommended.

Participants are invited to meet up at Otto's Pub & Brewery in State College afterwards for a beer and a bite.
