Spring Stewardship Projects
ND BHA board members and volunteers have been busy putting boots on the grounds to improve public lands across the state.
In April, we hosted a work day at Hankinson Hills, a U.S. Forest Service property about an hour southwest of Fargo. We replaced 50 horizontal fence posts, replaced 10 damaged signs, picked up trash, and surveyed a mile of a popular hiking trail to check for downed limbs from ice storms.
In May, we hosted another work day at Pipestem Reservoir in partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers where volunteers helped pick up trash and remove old tree guards.
At the beginning of June, ND BHA board members spent the weekend inventorying nearly 50 miles of fence using ATVs on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. With the help of BHA, the BLM intends to inventory old fencing and work with the chapter to remove or modify stretches to improve wildlife habitat. As this project progresses, we'll need the help of volunteers. If you're interested in helping with this project in the future, join our mailing list to be the first to know about upcoming opportunities!
Sundheim Boat Ramp
We are happy to announce in cooperation with the North Dakota Game & Fish Department that efforts to renovate and re-open the Sundheim boat ramp are complete! The improved ramp will provide access and recreation opportunities on the Yellowstone River in western ND.
