The Armed Forces Initiative is the BHA program focused on creating conservationists within the military community. Join the members of New York AFI and learn about pheasant hunting in the great state of New York.
A Dual Skills camp is a learn-to-hunt event where attendees will be mentored through a hunting experience from the planning phase through the post-harvest processing. AFI mentors will host attendees in the field talking through the ins and outs of pheasant hunting in New York. After the hunt, an AFI mentor will walk participants through the cleaning, processing, and cooking prep for pheasant.
Attendees can expect to learn:
- How to hunt pheasants with dogs
- Proper upland game hunting techniques
- Pheasant habitat and stocking efforts in NY
- How to clean and prepare a pheasant
- Public lands access in NY

Participants can expect to camp in a cabin in the area. Ensure you bring any other camping gear you may need. Meals will be provided.
Who can attend:
- This event is open to all members of the military community
(Active duty, Reserves, National Guard, Veterans, and Gold Star families)
- You do not need to be a BHA member to attend
(but we sure would appreciate it if you were)
